Home > Projects > TIM’s Private Facebook Group

I have learnt that everyone’s journey is different, each story unique, but we have one, common thread that binds us all together. I value the thoughtful debate, support, conversation and differences of opinion – TIM Member, 2015.

TIM’s private Facebook group is the main gathering space for our members, a confidential community for all People Living with HIV from around the world.

What happens in the TIM Facebook group?

TIM’s digital space on Facebook provides members the chance to ask questions about HIV, post articles, and generally engage with their peers. Topics such as stigma, disclosure, sex and dating, treatment uptake and side effects, criminalisation, lived experience, AIDS history and survivor trauma all come up regularly.

This digital gathering space has fostered the development of meet-up chapters in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth, and inspired similar digital/meet-up groups in New Zealand and Japan.

How private is TIM’s Facebook group?

TIM’s number one rule is confidentiality. We use the highest standard of privacy for Facebook groups,  because we know not everyone can (or wishes to) disclose their HIV status.

This means that none of your Facebook friends can see you are a TIM member (unless they are also members). None of your comments, likes, or posts will show up on your Facebook profile, or your friends’ timelines (unless they are also members). You can even switch off notifications from TIM, to make things more private.
